My last blogpost is from January. Time for a new one! :)
We still have snow, but it didn't snow again. We "just" had freezing rain and due to icy roads my hostchild got snow day number 7. :D This week is pretty quiet and it started melting. :)

Four more weeks to go before my Florida trip starts! :) I can't wait and I'm soo excited!! Travelling alone seems to be the best way to get to know new people! I did the same during my college course two weeks ago. Against common German behavior I attended the course all on my own what allowed me to get in touch with strangers more easily. :) I talked to the really nice girl called Shahn from Malaysia and I met her and all her cute friends in New York on Sunday again! Wow, I really like my friend Jiho from South Korea who unfortunately had to return to his home country in early January, but now that I got to know more Asian people I'm getting along with them even better. :) Hopefully I'll see them more often in the remaining months before I fly home!
The college course was about "intercultural communication" and I enjoyed it! Well, sitting in a class for eight hours a day during a weekend doesn't sound like fun and it really was kind of tiring, but I've learnt very interesting things about culture differences regarding environment, time, action, communication, individualism, thinking, structure, ... It's too much to tell it now, but everyone who likes to know more about it should just feel free to ask me. :) My post-course assignment is about American culture in comparison to the German one, and about culture differences in general. It's pretty funny to think about typical German behavior and I have to admit I don't really like some of our habits, but honestly I never did. :D In my opinion no culture is the best one, not even the American whose inhabitants still believe in their invincible country. :D I decided to pretend I'm an American girl when I'm back in Germany, just to give strangers a reason why I'm acting strange and NOT German, hahahaha. ^^ I guess it's going to be really funny! I'm not kidding!! Actually I realized I wanna meet as many different people as I can! It's so fantastic to meet people with a different philosophy of life – as long as they are open-minded to meet me, hehe. ;) Sometimes I don't really feel like a typical German girl any more, my home is the world! :)

Did anyone ever hear about the Restaurantweek in New York? Certain Restaurants offer lunch and dinner for a cheaper fixed price and when I read about it for the first time I was completely sure that I wanna go out for the dinner during the Restaurantweek. I did!! :) I reserved a table in an Argentinian restaurant in the Lower East Side for Romina and me on Friday night. We really enjoyed our three-course menu there for just 35 $. :)

On Saturday I did absolutely nothing but hanging around in my bed. I didn't regret it because it was cold and wet and cloudy and gray outside! ;)
Fortunately we had blue sky on Sunday when I met my friends Inga, Romina, Anais and Shahn and her friends in New York. :) We went to Chinatown to see the Chinese New Year's Parade (they have a different time counting). It wasn't as big as I expected, but some dragons were still nice to look at though. We had lunch at McDonalds and afterwards I visited the Sea, Air & Space Museum of New York with Inga, Romina and Anais. It was totally impressive and funny. :)

Ich habe mir diesen Text dann doch mal durchgelesen, meistens lese ich nicht, weil ich ungerne am Rechner lange Texte lese, die dann auch noch englisch sind. Aber die Überschrift war interessant und ich dachte mir, wie verhält sich ein Amerikaner in Deutschland: Also zuerst wird er erschrocken sein, dass wir uns nicht über nackte Haut und vorsintflutartigem Rumgebumse aufregen, sondern über Gewalt als darstellende Kunst. Dann wird er erstaunt sein, wie unwichtig wir den Glauben im täglichen Leben finden. Nachdem er das verarbeitet hat, wird er sich wundern, was für kleine Kühlschränke wir haben und dass unsere Autos mit einer Tankfüllung 600km weit kommen. Aber der größte Schock will be the following one: Der Quarterpounder heißt hier "Royal" :-D
ReplyDeleteNe, Spaß beiseite! Träumst du schon englisch? Hab gehört das soll relativ schnell gehen.
Aber aber aber Seppel, meine Texte sind doch nicht so schwer! ;p Also bei Kühlschränken und Tankfüllung stimm ich dir voll und ganz zu! Doch sie würden eher verwundert über unsere Spritpreise sein... Hätten wir in Deutschland amerikanische Preise, würde ein Liter Super bei uns nur 0,5 Euro kosten. :D Ein Traum!! Also nein, ich halte mich in Zukunft zurück mit dem Urteilen über eine Nation, wenn ich dieses Land noch nicht erlebt noch deren Einwohner kennengelernt habe. Es gibt viele Dinge, die ich kritisieren würde, aaaaber auch viele Sachen, von denen wir Deutschen lernen können, denn in vielerlei Hinsicht sind eben WIR viel zu engstirnig und zu verbissen! Auto fahren ist zwar langsamer, aber dafür total entspannend und vor allem unfallfreier! Die Menschen sind flexibler, fröhlicher und man kommt viel schneller ins Gespräch anstatt böse Blicke zu bekommen, weil man im Geschäft Hilfe braucht. :P Man entschuldigt sich, wenn man jemanden ausversehen anstößt oder bittet jemanden höflich aus dem Weg zu gehen. :) Gibt noch so viel mehr!!! Aber in Sachen Sparsamkeit, Recycling, Sozialsystem und manchmal auch Planung sind die Deutschen den Amerikanern aber durchaus voraus. :D

Eine Europaweite Umfrage hat ergeben, dass die Deutschen die besten Autofahrer sind, aber auch die Aggressivsten. Was wohl daran liegt, dass wir so viele mittelalterliche Städte haben, die nicht für Autos ausgelegt sind (Detmold) und alle möglichst schnell da raus wollen :-D
